People’s Party a coalition partner in the current government is not supporting the Private Members Bill initiated by Gumine MP to replace Limited Preferential Voting (LPV) System or Model of Voting. The party in a meeting today unanimously resolved to go against the move by the government to re-introduce the First Past the Post (FPTP) voting system in the 2022 National General Election (NGE). The party’s parliamentary leader and Governor of Jiwaka Province, the Hon. Dr. William Tongamp, Party Patron & Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas, Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources & Member for Wabag Open Hon. Dr. Lino Tom and Community Development Minister & Member for Jimi Open, Hon. Wake Goi, took a strong stand not to support the move. The elected leaders with the support of the party national executives and supporters want the LPV system to remain, where people are given an opportunity to vote a leader of their choice. We, as a People’s Party is strongly opposing the National Government’s proposal for a bill to do way with the Limited Preferential Voting system in the coming national general elections and reverting to the First Past the Post voting system, said Dr. Tongamp.

By David Levi Behind this charming and unfailing gracious persona lies a shrewd and an unflinching calculative mind. A mind of a brilliant and accomplished political tactician the country has ever seen. Peter Parre O’Neill is the maker and breaker of political parties, a mover and a shaker of political wills and even those whims of titanium craftily engineered by the seasoned and well-placed hands that many people thought wouldn’t stand the test of the boy from Ialibu/political. His political ingenuity is legendary as his business escapades. Born as Paire in Melipini, Muamune council ward to Brian O'Neill, an Australian-born magistrate of partial Irish descent and local mother Awambo Yari, from Pangia Southern Highlands Province. In Paire's veins runs Kamari- the blood of those destined for higher calling. O'Neill was educated at the Pangia Primary School, Ialibu High School and Goroka High School. After leaving high school he received a Bachelor of Accountancy and Commerce from the University of Papua New Guinea, in 1986. By Albertis_Photography Peter O'Neill has built a fundamental foundation of PNG's economic growth - 'INFRASTRUCTURE'. Fools can refute that! He was on track to build more but was short lived. Advanced infrastructure is crucial to economic growth. Infrastructure could mean tourism infrastructure; road and bridge systems; agricultural infrastructure etc... a nation's economy doesn't grow in bushes. Many talked against the development of sporting facilities like the stadiums without considering the cash injections that would be generated by games. He borrowed to build those crucial infrastructure. Some said were at inflated costs and project funds commissioned out by project proponents which are but yet to be proven. Whilst setting up the necessary infrastructure, he invested heavily on agriculture, tourism and particularly SME's - the cornerstones of economic growth. Without seeing the outcome of these visionary work, we nagged him. He knew very well that he was on track yet we sunned him down led by some ill-conceived Facebook warriors who can't even show their capabilities given the caps they are wearing now. He invested very heavily in law and order as well to balance the equation. Law and order was minimal unlike today. Peoples First Party has launched its membership drive at the Gateway Hotel tonight ( 25th June 2021). Party leader and Member for Yangoru Saussia Hon Richard Maru has taken the honor to lead PFP into 2022 election from former leader and patron Luther Wenge. PFP stands for the people and will deliver what's belong to the people of this great nation rightfully to them. Papua New Guinea is abundantly blessed with natural resources and diversity of people with unique identity. Yet majority of her people face hardships and live in poverty. Political View by Ink News It is a public knowledge that there are many senior politicians who will be vying for the Prime Minister post after the 2022 National General Election. However, the Governor General will only invite a party that has majority of its MPs winning right across the country to form the next government. Therefore, MPs who are most likely to retain their seat and comeback to the form the next govt are listed below. Interestingly the are all party leaders who have the political will and financially backing to form the next govt. You have seen that the post has left the NA out because currently there have been a power tussle between party members on who could be the next party leader to lead them into 2022 elections. Also the Opposition leader has been left our because he has less chances of forming the next govt given that he had nil interest in the PM seat despite championing various VoNC during this term of Parliament. IS THE PNG ELECTORAL COMMISSION FREE FROM BIAS AND CORRUPTION AND PREPARED TO CONDUCT THE 2022 ELECTIONS?? A personal experience of former Ambassador Gabriel Pepson in the recently concluded Pom NW By Election .................... Good evening fellow WHlanders, Our young country of PNG is confronted with enormous challenges, ever since independence in 1975. Today, the challenges are much greater. The socio economic condition in any country is moulded & determined mostly by the political leadership of the country. For PNG, what has happened in the past is now behind us. The future is important, and is still in our hands. Therefore the forthcoming 2022 general elections are extremely important for every citizen of this country. By Brian Folock Imagine you are a candidate and you vote yourself in your own council ward with your family, only to find out, during counting, your score 'zero' from that box. You are left wondering, what may have happened, to your own vote, or that of your family and supporters. What happened?? This peculiar scenario is only found in Papua New Guinea. Voting in this country is screwed with some of the most extreme cases of election irregularities such as rigging. What had happened to your own vote let alone your family's votes if not your supporters' votes supposing you are a candidate yourself? What happened? There are many areas to ponder what had happened. 1. The Presiding Officer who presided over that particular polling booth may have rigged it and marked another candidate instead of you as your own vote. THIS PRACTICE IS VERY POPULAR AND COMMON. IT IS FAR A WORSE POLITICAL EXPERIENCE IN THE HIGHLANDS region. Counting for the Moresby Northwest By-elections first preference votes in Ward 1 (Metoreia United Church Hall), Wards 8, and 11 at the Sir John Guise Stadium (SJGS) are complete. Counting at the Pacific Institute of Leadership and Governance (PILAG) for Ward 10 is progressing with eight ballot boxes left for counting. Counting at all venues was delayed on Friday 11 June, due to police personnel and counting officials not receiving their allowances for deployment in the counting operations. PNG Electoral Commission Counting Official, Paul Sailas said counting was delayed because they did not receive their allowances. However, the issue has been resolved with counting for first preference votes now almost complete. Progressive results for the by-election as of this morning are as follows: 1. Lohia Boe Samuel (Pangu) - 16,294 2. Joe Tonde (ULP) - 8,378 3. Sengol Parkop (IND) - 5,141 4. Dr. T. Kambanei (NGP) - 5,138 Commentary by PNC Party Since 1975 the independent state of Papua New Guinea has been growing on a snail's pace. Nearly 70% of its infrastructures were built during the colonial times. There wasn't much transpired off the ground since independence, most were administrative changes than physical structures. The economic performance of PNG has steadily improved during the 8 years of PNC led government due to a significant resources boom, mainly in the extractive industry. By David Lepi Peter O'Neill dominated Papua New Guinea politics for almost a decade before his ousting 2 years ago. How did he do it, and how much of a shadow does he still cast? Like a posthumous honour O’Neill is far better celebrated now than when he was in power. People now fully appreciate how better he was until he was gone. The starling contrast of O’Neill and the current government's approach to service delivery is a reliable yardstick to measure leadership. O'Neill's government suffered an abrupt ending only to appease a fickle mob who gullibly took what political opportunists and lying mongers put on social media as the gospel truth. His two year absence at the helm of leadership, besieged and in miserable isolation, marked the beginning of the end of infrastructure revolution that awakened the national consciousness and realization of improved assets will lead to economic growth. |
