Files that create short cuts or hidden are due to computer virus. If files in your USB or External Hard Disks have short cut icons or if they are hidden, can try the following techniques to retrieve your data.
1.. Buy a good antivirus software and install it in your computer. Then scan the computer with all external devices thoroughly to remove viruses.
2. Open command prompt (cmd), assuming ‘f:‘ as the letter of affected drive, enter this command-
attrib -h -r -s /s /d f:\*.*
replace ‘f:’ with other drive letter if needed.
3. Go to Control Panel, Folder Options, select VIEW tab, select “Show hidden files, folders and drives” and uncheck “Hide protected operating system files (recommended)” now click APPLY
