The Papua New Guinea Defence Force or PNGDF is the military organisation of Papua New Guinea. The first duty of the military is to provide for the security and defence of Papua New Guinea and her interests. Thus, the PNG Government must ensure that the country has defence capabilities to respond to a range of security contingencies and provide options to assist regional stabilisation initiatives that promote our national interests. One of them is proper Military recruitment processes. Below are the tips on how interested Papua New Guinean students can apply for Training and pursue career in the military.

The applications for the PNG Defence for Training is usually announced in the media. However, recently the Defence Force made amendments in its recruitment policy and now recruit occurs annually.
This is for applicants who want to become a Soldier are to go through 3 months recruit training in Goldie Recruit Training Depot. Both males and Females are eligible to apply.
Age: Between 18-27 years for General Enlistee
This is if you want to become an Officer in the PNGDF. Training is for 18 months and is done at the Joint Forces Academy in Igam Barracks, Lae, formally known as the Defence Academy.
Both Males and Females are eligible to apply if you meet all the criterias
Age: Between 18-30 years for Officer Cadet
This applies to those who already have Tertiary qualifications and are
currently in the workforce, and are interested to join the force as a Specialist in your respective fields. Training is only for 3 months in Igam Barracks, Lae in which you will learn the basics of the army. Both Females and Males are
eligible to apply
Age: Between 18-30 years for Direct Entry
- GENEREAL ENLISTEE APPLICATIONS
This is for applicants who want to become a Soldier are to go through 3 months recruit training in Goldie Recruit Training Depot. Both males and Females are eligible to apply.
Age: Between 18-27 years for General Enlistee
- OFFICER CADET APPLICATIONS

How to apply for PNG Defence Force Recruitment
The PNG Defence Force Recruiting Office does NOT have an EMAIL ADDRESS and there are NO APPLICATION FORMS at the moment. This means, you only need to provide required documents stated above to the military recruitment office. You can either sent the documents by post or if your live in Port Moresby, you can hand deliver .
