Papua New Guinea OPPOSITION Leader Joseph Lelang plans to make submissions to the Citizenship Committee to review Justin Tkatchenko’s citizenship status and have him deported. “Nothing less than that is acceptable to us,” Lelang said. He said in a statement that while he welcomed Tkatchenko’s decision to step down as Foreign Affairs Minister, it was not enough. He said Tkatchenko, a naturalised citizen, must be dealt with “for his insulting, derogatory, racist and offensive comments describing citizens of this country as useless and primitive animals” on the ABC’s Pacific Beat. “He must be deported so that in future, such comments should never ever be uttered against the country and its peoples by naturalised citizens,” Lelang added. He said it was shameful that Prime Minister James Marape was trying to deflect the situation and protect Tkatchenko.
Lelang added that the country was bigger than the Prime Minister and Tkatchenko. The interest of the country, its cultures, heritage and the dignity of its peoples must be protected at all times, he said. Lelang said the justification by Tkatchenko on radio on Sunday about his trip and the role played by his daughter and costs incurred were incorrect. He said the Opposition would also lodge a formal complaint against Tkatchenko for misconduct in office with the Ombudsman Commission. Statement/TheNational/PNGfacts Also read Comments are closed.
