Open Member for Pomio Elias Kapavore has defected to PANGU Pati from the People’s National Congress (PNC) Party, as of lastweek. Reaffirming what the party executives said, Mr. Kapavore said that he was privileged to be part of the PNC party right after his election during the 2015 By Election of the Pomio Open seat. He thanked the PNC Party leader and former Prime Minister Peter O’Neil for the leadership and opportunity given to him, as this has helped him in his leadership to bring development into the once least developed district in PNG, over the past 8 years. Mr. Kapavore said that it was not an easy decision for him but the invitation was made after the 2022 National Elections, and he had to sought advise and support from his DDA Board members, before making his final decision to join PANGU. As a Pomio DDA Board member, Melkoi LLG President Thomas Osa said that the board is happy that their chairman has made this decision to move to the government side, because the district needed to move, but at a faster rate than at present.
He also commended the PNC leadership of former Prime Minister Peter O’Neil, saying the recognition has seen a lot of developments in this rural district. Mr. Kapavore expressed gratitude towards the PNC Party, but said that the elections are over and politics set aside, the interest of Pomio District and PNG, is bigger than that of any individual, and thus the decision is to help him and the DDA Board progress development plans of the district. He said that PNG would be celebrating 50 years of independence within 3 years, and Pomio District also needs to move with it’s development plans. Mr. Kapavore also said that the move is also to strengthen the presence of one of the oldest political party - PANGU, in East New Britain province. He further announced some infrastructural projects earmarked for this year, under the Connect PNG Program, where the 17 kilometer Nongia to Karong road would be upgraded to connect the missing link, a 45 meter Bailey bridge for the Kavlou river in the Melkoi LLG, with another similar bridge for Kilak river in the south coast of Sinivit LLG. The Pomio MP said the national government is also assisting with two 100 meter bridges for Merai river in the Sinivit LLG and Melkoi river in the Melkoi LLG. There is also support for road upgrading in the new Mamusi Yana LLG. Picture: Pomio MP Elias Kapavore Also read
