BUSINESS activities and schools in Port Moresby are expected to be affected next Monday when United States President Joe Biden arrives for his three-hour stopover, says Prime Minister James Marape. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be arriving on Sunday. Marape yesterday also announcing a three-hour shutdown of the air space above Port Moresby. Cabinet is expected to meet on Wednesday to approve what is planned for next Monday. “Half an hour leading up to his arrival, and half an hour after his departure, our airspace will be in lock-down. Satellite orbit, international flight travels, domestic flights, totally locked down,” he said. “In those three hours, Papua New Guinea will be the most secure place in the face of planet earth. The entire US security apparatus will zoom in. Focus will be on PNG.” Marape said for the three hours Biden would be in Port Moresby the capital “will be the safest place on earth”. “Next Monday, students along the route of travel may not have to attend class,” he said. “We expect to tone down on work and normal business. Students and people can show our hospitality.” Marape said people should be able to “give our visitors a good welcome” from Jackson International Airport to Apec Haus. “I ask our people to unite and show hospitality. Leave aside our personal differences and politics. Show (our) hospitality.” He added that next Monday too, public service would “scale down”. “By Wednesday we will know. Movements in certain parts of the city restricted to allow for ease of travel.
