Papua New Guinea Government will not be forced by partners to make decisions on resource developments and will base its decisions on convictions of national importance. Prime Minister James Marape made these remarks when responding to questions about the outcome of the State re-negotiations with Papua LNG developer Total, Exxon Mobil and Oil Search. Mr. Marape said the State team has returned however, the Cabinet is yet to briefed on the matter. He says discussions are ongoing between the State and the developers with Total senior executives coming into the country to meet with the National Government. “Our Government since we’ve come on board, one of the issues that we’re trying to establish and ascertain exactly whether the agreement signed is congruent to laws of our land. I am the last one to break laws of my land, and I expect every corporate citizen and every public servant and every person to comply with the laws of our land. We’ve taken time, we respect that this is serious investment, our nation needs this investment. We are not in the business of chasing away investors but in the same context we must also respect laws we have in the country, “My business is all about ensuring that what is PNG’s entitlement by law in as far as benefit is concerned, is secured,” Mr. Marape said. The state negotiation team led by Petroleum Minister Kerenga Kua left for Singapore last week to re-negotiate the $13 billion dollars or over forty-billion-kina project with developers Total, Exxon Mobil and Oil Search Limited.
