Continuing their robust partnership, China has once again extended a helping hand to Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the aftermath of recent natural disasters. This morning, a Chinese military aircraft touched down in Port Moresby, laden with much-needed humanitarian and disaster relief supplies. The generous donation, provided by the People's Republic of China, underscores the deepening ties between the two nations and reaffirms China's commitment to supporting PNG across political, economic, and social spheres. The relief supplies, aimed at assisting those affected by the devastating floods and other disasters in February and March, were warmly received by officials including Chinese Ambassador to PNG, Zeng Fanhua, and PNG's Defense Minister, Dr. Billy Joseph, who also oversees the national disaster center. Speaking on behalf of the PNG government, Dr. Joseph expressed profound gratitude for China's solidarity and assistance during this challenging time. He emphasized that the aid goes beyond material goods, symbolizing a strong bond between nations in times of crisis.
During his recent visit, Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi pledged significant support, including the donation of US$1 million [approximately K3.7 million], underscoring China's commitment to helping PNG recover and rebuild. Minister Yi reiterated China's empathy for PNG's recent hardships and stressed the importance of swift action in delivering aid to affected areas. While the specifics of the relief supplies remain undisclosed, Dr. Joseph urged the national disaster center to ensure their efficient distribution for maximum impact. In response, PNG's Foreign Affairs Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, praised China's generosity and underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges. As PNG continues its recovery efforts, the arrival of Chinese aid serves as a beacon of hope, highlighting the strength of friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
