The students studying in UPNG knows exactly what it feels to give bribery while studying at UPNG. I m a victim of these bribery system. I am a unsuccessful student in my grade 12 education but through committment and perseverance, i did well again through Distance Education mode and upgrades my Marks within a period of 2 years. Satisfied with my Mark's I applied within the school of humanities and social SCIENCES for under the non school leavers program with confidence. Guess what? I was not offered a space to study. Disappointed with the outcome, I confronted at the EOs office just to be overlooked. Dishearted with even the arrogant officers I walked out and seeing the dismay on my face, I tell guy , probably a student or maybe a longtime stap natin fellow came up to me and asked what my problem was. I told him everything and he told me to go and look for K1000. Knowing it is so wrong, I hesitantly got his number and left. The next day , I came and gave him the amount requested. Don't know what had happened but after a month, I got my offer letter to study at UPNG under one of the strands at School of Humanities.
This is just one of the stories but many of the students studying at the university are going through this bribery system to get enrolled. They are thinking it's the normal way of doing things in this world. Everywhere in PNG, it's always about you give and you get. The university should be a place where we should be groomed to be better ambassadors of integrity and honesty to curb the long lasting corrupt practices in our Country. The officers at UPNG must be reported and sacked if one is found engaging in such activities. Though they are thinking they are giving second chance to students, they dont know that they are imparting that practice to all of us who will soon be employed in various WORKFORCE around the country. LETS SAY NO TO CORRUPTION AT UPNG!!! By Trev Kissengan Next : The Plight Of Motu Koitabu Landowners Comments are closed.
