By: Dr Sam Yockopua The politicians who run this country, the people who run organizations including the SoE Controller have their brains too. They know what is wrong and what is right. They know about abuse of public money, the people's money and the consequences. Of course, they know that. But sometimes, when you spend money on an urgent matter due to the nature of the situation, you have to spend first and justify later. Just like my job at the Emergency Department, we triage and sort out the urgent situations as a matter of priority - do actions first and ask questions later. In a desperation situation, including being in a state of war, there is little or no time to follow established consultative processes. Guided by your instinctuve principles, as long as the approprite Laws guide you, you need to make that decision to safeguard your people, your land, your country and your future - you need a Law that gives you that advantage. And even if you make a blunder, there are other established systems and offices to correct those, as long as they are functioning themselves. We needed an Emergency Law, the recent Highlands Earthquake/Landslide crisis told us, and immedite recently, the COVID-19 just reminded us, and so our Government just did that. If your house was under attack by criminal elements, you have to put up a defense including attacking the offenders before the police come, instead of waiting for them to come and solve your problem. If there is a house on fire whereby kids are trapped inside, you have to smash through the glass and rescue them, instead of getting a search warrant or court order to break open the glass on someone's house to save lives. In both cases, you reacted accordingly with collateral damages, but at the end of the day, you saved lives. Money and materials do not matter, whereas lives do. If the Government, Controller or those who use this Law to aid their pockets, they will still be punished one way or the other. The longer arm of the law will find them. Instead of worrying about this, we should be more concerned of the bigger picture, the greater gain. Look big, think bigger. Next : K45 Billion Investment To EHP : Truth Or Fiction?
