David Lepi. Misty fog and early coverage over Mt Lamina clears suddenly ushering in a new ray of light of hope as Southern Highlanders from all corners of the trouble torn province converged to witness the nomination of Peter Nupri. A grand entrance of waves after waves of dancers representing each district came in colors in their finest regalia to commemorate the dawning of a new era. Today, Wednesday 25th May 2022 will go down in the history of SHP as hope was reborn. The day was graced by the presence of the province's founding fathers and early leaders including Grand Chief Youngtine Koroba, Hon Jeffrey Komal, Philemon Embel, Brian Pepo, Philip Moya and of course the former Prime Minister and Ialibu Pangia MP Hon Peter O'Neill. Nupri's nomination as a candidate to contest the Southern Highlands Provincial seat was supported and witnessed by fellow candidates with the exception of the incumbent Governor as sign of unity and solidarity to the cause of change.
Speeches were poignant bringing back memories of SHP in her early days when Hela was part of the province and the annual budget was managed by a meager K5million to what we have today. Represented speakers spoke on length of the rampant corruption in the province and demanded change and change through Peter Nupri and Peter O'Neill as leaders in power. People listen eagerly in the afternoon cold and responded occasionally with the People's National Congress party chant. Soon the latter day was electrified with strong PNC sentiments and the fight was in the air. As for me I personally witnessed Nupri has indeed a date with destiny.
