A Seventh Day Adventist group, who defected from the main church and call themselves 'SDA Laymen Ministries Association (SDA LMA), has baptised 24 of its members in Chimbu's Sinesine district on Saturday. The baptism ceremony was held at Koge SDA LMA church, some 25km southeast of the provincial capital Kundiawa and was witnessed by 500 church members and well-wishers. Kainantu-based pastors Tevo Yausi and Silas Etaipo were invited to administer the baptism upon the membership, some of whom came from Gumine, Gembogl, Minj and Mt Hagen. SDA LMA president for Chimbu Andrew Kupe said it was important for the membership to be baptised in a bid to consolidate their faith. The baptism was the culmination of a week-long crusade held in Koge. The crusade was based on the history of the SDA church plus presentation of gospel messages and current events of the world.
