![]() EMERGING satellite and internet company, Speedcast, is ready to provide the next generation in telecommunications infrastructure in Papua New Guinea which will boost business and government performances. APC Enterprises and Emerging Markets vice-president Hamish Lee said Speedcast’s internet Vsat infrastructure had the potential to operate at a speed of 300 megapixels per second which would significantly improve the average speed and boost digital communications in the country. Lee said the only issue holding them back to supply the infrastructure on the market was licensing. “We are already talking to the National Information and Communication Technology Authority for licensing of this product,” he said.
“Once this product hits the market, we hope it fills the gaps of internet interruptions, bad network, slow downloads and processing. “It is a futuristic piece of equipment and is handy to use or carry around. “Today’s digital environment is all about speed and how fast you can use technology to enhance your work. “With this product, Speedcast would change the landscape of how business, whether it is personal, private, or government, is operated in the country.” He said after more than a decade of the company operating in PNG, it wanted to continue investment in the economic growth and development of the country. Lee added that Speedcast would use Starlink satellites which were owned by billionaire Elon Musk. “Speedcast has made major strides in PNG oil and gas market by working with companies such as InterOil (now Exxonmobil).” Lee said the company had supported the construction phase of PNG Liquefied Natural Gas, with both primary satellite links and workers construction camps connectivity, supporting up to 3,000 individuals.
