Deputy Opposition leader and Wau Bulolo MP Sam Basil says he is not leaving the Opposition and is still the Deputy Opposition leader unless he is sacked by leader Belden Namah.
Basil has just moved into one of PNG’s oldest parties, the Pangu Pati, and says he is doing this for the elections in 2017. “I have decided to move into Pangu to take the lead in getting it ready for the next elections. For too long I have been in the shadows of other leaders,’’ he says. Basil was disappointed at the reports in the newspaper as it is misleading. He says other Opposition MPs who have moved to join government ranks will be judged by their own people. “ I have no comments on their move, let their people decide on their performance and people can use their democratic rights to decide what’s next,” Basil said. The Opposition is now left with only three MPs, that is the Member for Rabaul Dr Allen Marat, Opposition Leader Belden Namah and his deputy Sam Basil. “We will stay like this until 2017 and let the people of Papua New Guinea decide our fate. Those that have moved to join government have compromised themselves by supporting someone whose leadership is under question.” Basils says. PNG Facts/PNGLoop Comments are closed.
