Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill has personally intervened in the controversial destruction of intricate carvings at the National Parliament, asking Speaker Theo Zurenuoc yesterday afternoon to halt the work.
Prime Minister Hon. Peter O'Neill said he walked down to the Grand Hall to see the four-tonne pole which was the next artefact on the blacklist and immediately sought an audience with the Speaker, in which the chair of the House was asked to stop the work. "I had gone down to the lobby myself and I requested the Speaker to stop the work. It is unnecessary for us to remove items of our national heritage," he said. Prime Minister Hon Peter O'Neill said PNG also had freedom of religion and Papua New Guineans rights to worship should be respected. What are the communities thoughts on removing items of our National heritage? Comments are closed.
