Papua New Guinea must embrace the Asian Century Market to take the country’s economy to the next level, Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said yesterday.
And to do that PNG needs to produce more high-quality exports that are tailored to meet the specific needs of the rapidly growing Asian neighbours. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill spoke at the launch of the ANZ Insight Report – Powering Papua New Guinea into the Asian Century yesterday and spoke about how PNG needed to step up and what the Government was now doing to meet the standards. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill also reiterated that with PNG hosting APEC in 2018, this was now an opportune time for the country and its Government to head that path. "The Asian Century is seeing nations to our north attaining broad-based growth,” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said. This is accompanied by population expansion, rising living standards, and an escalation in both small business and large industry. "PNG must embrace the opportunity that comes from this expansion. "The release of this ANZ Report - "Powering PNG into the Asian century" could not be better timed. The report focuses on a number of issues that have the attention of our Government and our business community. "How does PNG maximise the opportunity to capitalise on the Asian Century? What do we, as a nation, as a Government, and a business sector for PNG do to take full advantage of the Asian Century? "As an economy, and across all sectors, we simply must increase our capacity to be efficient, and to be competitive. We need to produce more high-quality exports that are tailored to meet the specific needs of our rapidly growing Asian neighbours. Next News Headlines
