Papua New Guine aMinister for International Trade and Investment Richard Maru has announced that PNG will host the first-ever International Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Summit in May at Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby. The Summit will be from 8th-9th May 2023. Minister Maru said the program will be officially opened by Prime Minister James Marape and experts around the world will be invited and over 370 delegates from PNG will also be invited to participate in the summit. According to Minister Maru, the National Government will learn from the experiences of the countries who have tapped into the SEZs. Mr. Maru says the Ministry is targeting government departments, private sector, provincial administrators and provincial planners and there are 370 spaces available on a first come first serve basis.
He says PNG will present on the second day of the summit its drafts of policy framework, SEZ masterplan, SEZ development strategy, revised SEZ legislation and amendments to the current SEZ Act. He adds that everything that will be presented will be in draft versions giving the chance to participants of the summit to provide their inputs.
