National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said Papua New Guinea has set new standards in sports for the Pacific region. Mr Parkop said PNG athletes had set new records in the 2015 Pacific games and the recently concluded under 20 FIFA women's world cup. He said these are only the beginning of great sporting events yet to come for PNG. The Governor said such sporting events are investments to open up doors to the world and international business and investment. He said the government believes in the strength and spirit of the people which comes from the rich cultural diversity, and its sporting heroes is a reflection of PNG's nature to overcome struggles. Governor Parkop was speaking at the recent induction of five athletes to the PNG's Sports Hall of Fame in Port Moresby. The five inducted were gold medalist in athletics, Salitia Pipit Muga from East New Britain, Nigel Cluer from Brisbane for swimming, Tumat Sogolik from New Ireland for boxing.
