Movement of people at the border post of Wutung has been restricted as PNG authorities monitor the situation.
This is following gun battle between the O-P-M rebels and Indonesian military over the weekend. Security has been tightened while work to develop infrastructure at the border has been put on hold. Speaking on N-B-C's Moning Tru program this morning, West Sepik Provincial Police commander, Robert Gesa said the restriction applies to both sides of the border. "At this stage there is a restriction on the traveling on both side of the border which is from Indonesia coming across and from Papua New Guinea going across as well. There is no access to anybody and leaving our border office close at the moment. Our border office is actually going through some major development construction taking place, but work is laid off as well and some of you will have and see with the situation is going at the moment".
