Police have begun enforcing the total betel nut ban in the Nation's capital as of yesterday.
They were seen setting up road blocks along the two highways - Hiritano and Magi - to confiscate betel-nuts which were bound for the city. Police constable Willy Yakam said the road block was set up at 6am this morning and will run all for the all of this year.Constable Yakam said police will start arresting and charging public motor vehicle owners who defy the ban and tried to transport betel nut into the city starting next week.He said selecting the city who still have betel nut in their possession are now given 7 days to sell off their stock.Meanwhile, NCD governor Powes Parkop was also at the road block to address the public and the media.
