PNG Prime Minister James Marape officially opened the much anticipated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) International Summit last night (07.05.2023) at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby. PNG for the first time hosts the International SEZ Summit that will be held over the course of 2days from May 8-9th. In his keynote speech Prime Minister James Marape welcomed the 400 delegates both international and local. PM Marape said SEZ will unbundle the PNG economy and be the incubator of the economy. Marape says SEZs will be the focal point to push for economic development in the country. He says economic advancement will be achieved through sustainable economic development. The Prime Minister called on Papua New Guineans to work the land and reap the benefits and be part of the economic development.
He says the Marape/Rosso government's agenda is to be economically independent by 2029 instead of relying heavily on handouts given in aids and grants He adds that PNG is a country abundant with natural resources yet heavily dependent on grants and aids this conception will change comes 2029,the economic will be grown to a K200 billion economy to sustain the other key development areas such as education,health and infrastructure development. He urged the delegates to invest in SEZs given that PNG has access to market within the global economy having forged strong bilateral ties. Kalang news/ PNGfacts Also read
