Parliament has passed the APEC Papua New Guinea 2018 Coordination Authority Bill 2014.
The new law now establishes a Coordination Authority to prepare all activities leading up to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders meeting in Port Moresby in 2018. Sponsor of the Bill, Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said, Papua New Guinea is a unique place and in order to showcase its uniqueness to the world leaders - it is important that a proper coordination is done to prepare well for this event which will be the biggest ever in the country. He said the bill allows for the authority to carryout activities to ensure professional protocols are accorded to the world leaders and to ensure the event is delivered in an efficient manner. Mr O'Neill said close to 200 meetings will be held leading up to the main event and a Operational Taskforce will provide and oversight on the preparations and hosting of the event. He said the government and the people of New Zealand have volunteer to provide a Chief Executive Officer who has the experience to head this authority. The APEC PNG 2018 Coordination Authority law will no longer be in force, after the APEC meeting. Comments are closed.
