Kiriwina Goodenough MP Douglas Tomuriesa said he believes the project his company was contracted to carry out in the South Fly District of Western Province was successfully completed and he has documents to verify that before the court. “With my team of lawyers, I am confident that the documents that we have furnished indicated the successful completion of the project however it seems to be otherwise and so I thank the courts, at the same time we all have to respect the courts who continue to uphold the constitution of our nation.” “We have to work with the courts now to make certain that we set aside this case so that I can continue to serve my people of Kiriwina Goodenough but more so importantly to serve the people of Papua New Guinea in my capacity as a leader of this nation,” said Mr Tomuriesa. Mr Tomuriesa, earlier this week was arrested by the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption detectives for charges against his company’s alleged non-delivery of the project Mr Tomuriesa said no one is above the law and he has abide by that when turning himself in for questioning when he received what he claims was an unofficial request from the Acting Chief Director Mr Matthew Damaru for questioning on Thursday 20th July 2019. With the case before the courts, FM100 News understands that Mr Tomuriesa could not provide specific explanations on the three charges he has been charged with. Mr Tomuriesa also said he will seek redress in the courts after the court’s decision on his case as it has tarnished his reputation as a national leader. Meantime the MP has labelled calls made for him to resign as Kiriwina-Goodenough MP as premature. He pointed out that every citizen is innocent until proven guilty by the Court and the allegations against him have yet to be heard. “I’m a leader elected by more than 14-thousand people and I will not step aside as this case did not happen while I was a member. I was a business man at that time, well before going into the elections,” he said. It is alleged in October 2011, the Tomuriesa family company Quick Span Building Systems Limited was awarded K6 million under the South Fly District supplementary budget for the construction of Health Workers houses in the District. But then fraud investigators found that the scope of work for that contract to Quick Span was changed from building houses to supplying materials. Out of the K6million, it is alleged K3, 550,171.85 million was expended on the project and K2, 449,828.15 million was misappropriated by Tomuriesa and his wife.
