![]() The Papua New Guinea Department of Lands and Physical Planning is undertaking reforms such as the introduction of a National Sustainable Land Use Policy for PNG. Minister for Lands and Physical Planning, John Rosso, revealed this when presenting a ministerial statement in Parliament recently. This policy aims to effectively promote and implement sustainable land use and management. Minister Rosso also admitted that the Special Agricultural Business Leases remains a challenge for the Department.
He says this is because the SABL concept was abused when huge tracks of land were issued SABL titles under the guise of agroforest projects. Since taking office, Minister Rosso has instructed the Customary Lands Advisory Committee to investigate the SABL’s and cancel those that are controversial and illegal.
