The Papua New Guinea government wants the Paladin security firm off Manus Island despite Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton belief that the company will continue running the asylum seeker camp in PNG. The Australian company, which had been accused of misconduct or corruption, is due to end its contract at the end of June. Mr Dutton told Australian radio at the weekend that Paladin is likely to continue in the role, saying the government needs to know it is getting value for money. This comes amid investigations into the procurement process by the Australian auditor general. PNG's Immigration Minister, Petrus Thomas, said the government's plan is to terminate the Paladin contract by end of this month. His government wants a transparent tender process and intends to push for a PNG company, saying there are businesses with the capacity to do the job who should be given the opportunity to participate.
