Papua New Guinea Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika this morning told State lawyers to speed up their work to ensure the matter before the Supreme Court regarding the interpretation of the Constitution on Parliament Sittings is dealt with quickly. Chief Justice Sir Gibbs said this when hearing the application by Ialibu Pangia and Opposition MP Peter O'Neill to seek the Supreme Court's interpretation of sections of the Constitution and Organic Law on the calling of Parliament Meetings and the handing down of the 2021 Budget. Chief Justice Sir Gibbs adjourned the matter to November 25 after state lawyers say they did not receive copies of the application from O’Neill’s lawyers. O'Neill's lawyer Greg Sheppard told the court that copies of the application were already been served to the Speaker and Attorney General. Chief Justice Sir Gibbs said the work of the government to serve its people must not be stalled and both parties must work on the matter with urgency to avoid unnecessary uncertainties in the work of the government.
