The alternative PNG government, led by Hon. Douglas Tumoriesa, announced its shadow cabinet ministers. Emphasizing the crucial role these ministers will play in offering alternative policies, advice, and leadership, Tumoriesa highlighted their commitment to ensuring Papua New Guinea's developmental aspirations are met. The Leader of the Opposition stressed the significance of adhering to parliamentary conventions, asserting that the shadow cabinet would keep the government accountable by providing oversight of the National Executive Council. While not fully-fledged ministers, the shadow cabinet members will focus on offering alternative policies, working closely with line agencies, and serving as a voice of reason in the pursuit of better achievements. "We aim to be a check on the ministries, providing solutions and constructive feedback for possible implementations," Tumoriesa stated during the announcement. The Leader of the Opposition urged the government to allocate adequate funding to the opposition, underlining the importance of a robust system of government. Alternate Prime Minister, Hon. Allan Bird, commended the shadow cabinet and rebuffed Prime Minister James Marape's allegations regarding the mishandling of the Vote of No-Confidence. Bird emphasized the opposition's role in assisting the government in handling sensitive issues that could potentially impact the state adversely. Governor Bird called for a check and balance within the government, asserting that the shadow cabinet's role is crucial in addressing sensible matters. He welcomed open debates with government ministers and affirmed the opposition's commitment to transparency and accountability.
