Papua New Guinea's Attorney General has hit back at the leader of the opposition over accusations he is interfering in the awarding of a large building contract, Radio New Zealand reports. Don Polye accused Ano Pala of trying to influence the Chief Justice in the over $US152 million deal to build the Supreme and National Court House. He said there had been pressure on Sir Salamo Injia to support a contractor closely associated with the government and the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill. But Mr Pala said the contract was yet to be awarded and Mr Polye's comments were "loose and irresponsible". The National reports there were three companies currently vying for the contract, including Chinese companies CRCE and CRCG, as well as Port Moresby-based L&A Construction. Mr Pala said it was the Cabinet's decision to select any one of them on recommendations by the Central Supply and Tenders Board. The decision is expected by Cabinet today. RNZi
