Prime Minister Peter Oneill is expected to witness the signing of development agreement, and the issuing of petroleum development license of a hydro-carbon project in Kiunga, Western Province, this week.
This is for the Stanley Gas Condensate project. The signing of the agreement coincides with a development forum that's currently underway. Its a requirement under the Oil and Gas Act to have such meeting before any licenses is issued. The meeting also look at the benefit-sharing alignment between the landowners and the state before the project is signed. Its believed, landowners and local leaders are demanding more than what is offered and its an issue, that is on the top of the agenda. The Petroleum and Energy secretary, Rendle Rimua has presented the government's proposal on how the benefits will be shared. And, the landowners were given until last night to come up with a counter proposal before further discussions. Comments are closed.
