Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill has appealed to law enforcement agencies to be fair in their handling of issues relating to political leaders.
Addressing a recent gathering of law and justice sector officials at his Pangia sub-district headquarter, he said that while he had faith in the law and judicial systems, those charged with constitutional and administrative responsibilities must perform their roles and functions without fear or favour. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said that despite what had been happening in the national political level, people in his Ialibu-Pangia district were not apprehensive over issues relating to his referral by the Ombudsman Commission to the Office of the Public Prosecutor on allegations relating to his Government’s important economic and financial decisions which he described as "in the best interest" of the country. "What we are asking for is fairness. The law enforcement agencies must make sure politics does not influence the justice system. "This is what we have been talking about at the national level and everywhere. We are not promoting people who break laws," said Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill. He added, "the laws are there to protect each and every one of us and the rights of individuals. That is what we stand for.” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill also said as Prime Minister, he and his Government have a lot of respect for and believed in the courts and justice system. "We have faith in those eminent and experienced Papua New Guineans holding high offices in the judiciary and the law and justice sector.” "We strongly believe that they will discharge their duties and responsibilities diligently and most importantly, in a fair and just manner,” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said. He said that the country’s future was very important and is on the verge of such a significant development and his Government had made vital decisions to place it on the right path to economic independence and prosperity. "That is what we are trying to do," said Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill.
