PNG Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Belden Norman Namah has called on the Electoral Commission to fail the 2021 Moresby North West By-Elections. Mr Namah said the by-election has been rigged and littered with foul play and corrupt practices. "Too many candidates in the election are laying complaints with the Police Criminal Investigations Directorate citing eye witness accounts of foul play. Many of these complaints are backed by photographic and video evidence of nocturnal visits by a certain election officer under police escort switching ballot boxes, of double voting, of ballot box tampering, and voter bribing. “A total of 25 boxes were removed and replaced. It is understood 11 boxes went to one location and 14 to another. Genuine ballot papers were found in the hands of voters outside of polling booths.
“In the end the splitting into five different counting zones provided ample opportunity for foul play. “The same manner of numerous foul plays has been alleged during the recent Goroka by-elections. “With the National Elections only 12 months away this pattern shows beyond any shadow of a doubt that the PNGEC is not ready to run the 2022 National General Elections. “If this magnitude of foul play has occurred at a city electorate with all the security forces concentrated and with power and open fields and roads, it will be chaos out in the rural electorates. “This by-election should be declared failed and the Prime Minister and his government must allocate sufficient resources and deploy accountable and transparent strategies to make the 2022 NGE a success. “There is too much at stake to be thinking about political survival or personal parochial interests.” Statement Next : Port Moresby Governor Calls For Sale Of PNG Power Comments are closed.
