Two male students from a secondary school in Port Moresby arrested for sexually assaulting a female student at the Mt Diamond Secondary School had their charges and information withdrawn yesterday.
Both students age 15 and 16 respectively from Enga Province were freed from police custody, but will help investigators in the case. A senior investigating officer told Magistrate Cosmos Bidar at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday, the duo have agreed to assist investigators and will become State witnesses. They were charged with sexual penetration without consent and locked up at Bomana prison until their release. The main suspect is still in custody at Bomana prison awaiting police to complete their investigation, with more arrests expected. This follows a video of the alleged rape incident committed inside the school's vicinity in June this year, that went viral on social media prompting police to respond.
