The Papua New Guinea Island of Bougainville is going to vote to become independent in 2019. That's the confident prediction of John Momis, President of the Autonomous Bougainville Government. The island was the scene of a bloody and prolonged civil war over the profits from the Panguna Copper and gold mine in the 1990s, but a peace agreement formally ended the conflict in 2001 by promising a referendum on independence, which is scheduled for 2019. President John Momis says as PNG celebrates 40 years of independence, Bougainvilleans don't feel they're part of the country. Source: Radio Australia
