PNG's Vanimo-Green Member of Parliament Beldan Namah has declared that it is time to reclaim Papua New Guinea from Prime Minister James Marape. Namah accuses Marape of manipulating the District Services Improvement Programme (DSIP) and Provincial Services Improvement Programme (PSIP) to reward political allies. Namah, emphasizing the urgency of the situation, called for Marape's resignation, asserting that it is in the best interest of the nation. He pointedly referred to recent events, particularly what he dubbed as "black" or "blood Wednesday," stating that the Prime Minister should have stepped down in the aftermath. The Green MP expressed a critical perspective on Marape's leadership, asserting, "You have reached the last line when security forces rebel against you; that’s when you know your time is up." Namah shifted the focus from political stability to economic stability, claiming that the country needs the latter more urgently.
Underlining his argument, Namah criticized Marape's tenure for contributing to increased unemployment and inflation. He painted a grim picture of the economic hardships faced by the populace, juxtaposed against what he perceives as preferential awarding of contracts to businesses from specific regions. Namah concluded his statement with a direct challenge to Marape's rallying cry, stating, "So Marape says to take back PNG, I say take back PNG from Marape." The Green MP's outspoken stance adds a new dimension to the political landscape, with implications for the ongoing discourse around leadership and governance in Papua New Guinea. Also read
