Work is underway to ensure, the existence of the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission is recognized under the Constitution.
It's Secretary, Doctor Eric Kwa says, since its creation in 2004, to succeed the Law Reform Commission, the Constitutional Review Commission and the General Constitution Commission, the C-L-R-C is still not recognized under the Constitution, except through the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission Act, which created it. Doctor Kwa told a Underlying Law conference in Port Moresby this week, that any reference to the C-L-R-C, would be made to the Law Reform Commission, until the Constitution is changed to accommodate and recognize the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission. "By some oversight, we were not able to amend the Constitution. "We came up with an Act in 2004, but no amendment was made to the Constitution to replace the reference to CLRC, instead of the Law Reform Commission. "So under the Constitution, the Law Reform Commission still exists, so we're working now with the government to put together a bill to amend the Constitution to make all references under the Constitution on LRC to CLRC," Doctor Kwa said.
