Kompiam-Ambum District in Enga Province, has become the first among the country's 89 districts, to have its own website.
Built at the cost of 50-thousand Kina, the website has various information about the district, which will also be linked to the national parliament website. Local MP and Environment and Conservation Minister John Pundari says, the website is an opportunity to showcase the untapped tourism potential, as well as the rich culture, flora, fauna in his district. Governor Peter Ipatas says the district has beaten the province in having a website, which he says, will also allow for transparency and accountability on its local MP. Mr. Ipatas further says the website is a good avenue to engage the educated population outside the district to be critical and contribute effectively towards development in the district. District Administrator Romalo Bapu, says about K60,000 will be saved annually through this project, which can be used elsewhere like roads. The website will go live at the end of the week.
