The Electronic Verification System currently been used at the Kairuku-Hiri By Elections counting is slowly proving to be effective.
The system is been used to save ballot preferences and public scrutiny. An Observer at the counting venue and Chairman of Transparency International PNG, Lawrence Stephen in an interview with NBC said the systems is more transparent and open for the scrutineers to confirm ballot preferences. Mr Stephens said it is quite a dramatic change in counting to see scrutineers and counting officials cooperating, in the use of the electronics system. He agrees that this electronic verification system should be used in the 2017 General Elections. Meantime, the progressive result of the Kairuku - Hiri by-election after count 7 this morning, Petitioner and National Alliance candidate Peter Isoaimo has moved from fourth place to second place with 3164, behind United Resource candidate, Henao Iduhu who has been leading since the start of count with 4143.
