Goroka, a town renowned for its tranquility and nestled within the Eastern Highlands Province (EHP), concerns have emerged regarding escalating law and order challenges. As one of the five government-designated tourism provinces, the region boasts several vital state institutions, agencies, and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). These include prominent entities such as the University of Goroka, Goroka Business College, Institute of Medical Research, and various others. According to Joe Wemin, LM, from the University of Goroka, the peace and stability of Goroka have recently been disrupted by a surge in lawlessness, prompting unease among the staff, students, and clients of these state entities and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Consequently, leaders representing these institutions convened yesterday at the University of Goroka to address these mounting concerns. During the meeting, Heads of the various agencies and organizations engaged in candid discussions regarding the emerging threats to public safety. They unanimously agreed to collaborate closely with the Eastern Highlands Provincial government and administration to devise effective strategies aimed at mitigating the prevailing law and order challenges. The collective resolve displayed by the Heads of State Agencies in Goroka, as highlighted by Joe Wemin, underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for collaborative action. By working in tandem with local authorities, these entities aim to restore peace and security to the town, safeguarding the well-being of its residents and preserving Goroka's reputation as a peaceful and welcoming destination.
