Police investigators have been given three months to compile files for Former Finance Secretary Steven Gibson.
He was arrested and charged last Wednesday by the Police Fraud Squad in Port Moresby relating to the payout of millions of Kina to Paul Paraka Lawyers from 2011 to 2013. He's out on a K10, 000 bail and made his first court appearance Tuesday morning. Gibson was charge with nine counts relating to misappropriation, official corruption and conspiracy. first lot of charges involves K30 million, the second K22 million and third K14 million all amounting to a total of sixty-six million kina. Magistrate Pinson Pindipia explained the process of the committal proceedings and told him not to interfere with State witness while police are carrying out their investigation. Gibson was the then Finance Secretary who was alleged to have played a vital part in the release of the money to Paul Paraka Law firm. He stepped down from office after his Deputy Jacob Yafai was suspended when the issue was raised in Parliament in May last year. Gibson will return to court on April 24th.
