NATIONAL Capital District Governor (NCD) Powes Parkop says developers in the city should not just evict people occupying their land but work out ways to resettle them before developing the land. Parkop said there were people already living on those lands and had been there for years and had established themselves on those lands. “If developers want to develop land then they have to serve prior notices, or can even look for other alternative land for to resettle people as well as working with City Hall administration,” he said. You cannot just remove those people who have been living there for years.
“Where can they go if forcibly removed? “It’s common sense and developers have to understand.” Parkop said he was putting all developers on notice to work amicably to resettle people and not use force and police to remove them as this was not in the best interest of NCD. He said settlers on government land in the city should know that the land they were on was also subject for development. He said the government could decide to develop it at and they would have to comply with any direction given. Parkop said individuals and businesses who obtained an urban development lease (UDL) title but had not developed the land risked forfeiture of the titles.
