Air Niugini today welcomed its 3rd Boeing 737 NG (new generation) aircraft, making it the 5th Boeing aircraft in the fleet.
With the arrival of P2-PXE, the airline now has the flexibility to operate six weekly flights to the Philippines with two and four flights to Cebu and Manila respectively. The airline is confident that the increase in frequency and additional capacity will offer further tourism, trade and travel opportunities between Papua New Guinea and the Republic of the Philippines. Air Niugini’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Simon Foo said that there are quite a number of large Filipino operated businesses in the country such as RD Tuna Canners Ltd, Frabelle (PNG) Limited and other businesses that employ Filipino citizens. There is a large Filipino community who travel to and from their homeland and the airline has seen the need to add frequency on its services to the Philippines. Air Niugini will soon offer tour packages to a number of popular tourism destinations in the Philippines such as Borocay. To enhance its services to Asia, Air Niugini recruited Filipino citizens as cabin crew who are multi lingual and fully conversant in the language requirements on flights to its Asian destinations. The Filipino cabin crew will work alongside their Papua New Guinean counterparts to offer the best cabin service to our passengers. Air Niugini Board and management are confident that the Boeing 737-800 is the right equipment or aircraft type to operate commercially viable services to neighbouring countries as it offers greater frequencies. With growing traffic between the Philippines and Papua New Guinea future plans are under consideration to operate daily flights to the Philippines pending approval from the relevant authorities.
