One Police ten seater vehicle was burnt down while other 3 ten seaters had all their glasses shattered and bodies chopped with bush knives and axe as tribesmen of a drowned man retaliated against Police in the Enga Province. According to the Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector George Kakas, On Wednesday 09th March, his policeman conducted their normal routine roadblock at Wabag Bridge where they booked a vehicle loaded with drunkards and pulled them over for questioning but two of the drunks ran into the nearby river to avoid the Police which they both drowned but 1 was rescued while the other was never found. PPC Kakas said the tribesmen of the man who drowned and was never found, then put on their roadblock further up the road which they blocked the CID Police returning from their road check and totally damaged the police ten seater with huge rocks and stones as the police took off back to the station for safety. Kakas said on Friday they went to speak with the leaders of the Kali Tribe who were the drowned man’s tribe, to have a an understanding with them and to make it clear to them that police were not responsible for his death. PPC Kakas said while his officers were talking to the tribe, youths numbering of 30-40 came after searching for the body of their tribes which was still not found, came and destroyed 3 ten seaters and burnt down one. Few Policemen were hospitalized with stone bruises to their heads and body as they fled to a neighboring village that kept them safe. PPC Kakas has organized for reinforcement and his men will be back at the Kali Tribe village to have all those youths involved in damaging Police vehicles to be brought to justice and let the law take its course.
