David Mead signs new deal for Titans The Papua New Guinea-born winger has scored 40 tries in his 73 games for the Titans and his new deal means he will remain on the Gold Coast until the end of 2016, which will be his seventh year with the club. Mead said his friendships with his Gold Coast team-mates were a key factor in his decision to re-sign with the Titans. "I'm happy on the Gold Coast with the Titans so I'm really glad to be staying," Mead said on Thursday. "I've really enjoyed my time with the club so far and have made some great friends at the Titans. "I'm still only young and want to help the Titans challenge for a premiership in the years to come." Mead, who was brought up in Lismore – just over the Queensland-New South Wales border from Gold Coast – continues the Titans' successful campaign to keep talented local juniors at the club. The Titans re-signed Steve Michaels (formally Mudgeeraba) and Jordan Rankin (formally Burleigh) midway through this year, while Kevin Gordon, Matt Srama, Ben Ridge, Ryan James and Jamie Dowling are all former Gold Coast Under-20 players signed up for the 2013 season.
The club's retention of talented locals is something Gold Coast's CEO David May is very proud of. "It's great news for the club that we have been able to re-sign one of our talented local juniors to a long-term contract," May said. "David is one of many exciting young players in our ranks so to have him committed to the club for the next four seasons is fantastic." Comments are closed.
