May We Be Free! With PNG’s national calendar that annually celebrates the queen’s birthdate, her death would now be remembered in every anniversary, or we might dedicate another day to respect the crowning day of our new king. The globe grieved over the death of the queen of England as tears fell from the most prominent faces of the world – naming from senators, prime ministers, presidents and inventors to conglomerated giants. Although her timely passing is a great loss, it is about time the systematic shackles are broken, especially on a political and economic standpoint. As a member-state to the commonwealth since 1975, our nation’s sovereignty has given a portion of our constitutional powers to the governor-general who is representing the kingdom of England, reflecting our neo-colonialism status. Image caption: PNG needs to move on without any foreign interference in our political and economic affairs. The colonial days were over but 56 sovereign-states out of 195 countries are legal commonwealth nations. This reflects the influence of the royal families in this era of political and economic integration. Beginning with a civilization that emerged from a monarchy system to this modern bureaucracy, the Buckingham palace built its empire on the wealth of its colonies. This enables the monarchy to remain not only the oldest kingdom but the wealthiest with a net worth of $83 billion, apart from its liquid assets. If that isn’t enough for visual integration, the Roman Empire would clarify. Irrespective of no longer existing, it evolved to form the basis of the Roman Catholic. There is no doubt the Vatican City is the creditor to most of the powerful economies like the U.S and Australia. All the wealth of the world was deviously claimed when the natives were untamed with a common ideology. This points-out a keynote indicating that the Vatican’s wealth is “impossible to calculate.” The royal families in England acquired their wealth in the similar way. With thousands of soldiers, they seized many possessions that belonged to the unarmed people. Even to this date, apart from its many investments, the kingdom enjoys its Sovereign Grants from its colonies. Our history maintains that the explorers were motivated by the three G’s – God, Glory and Gold. They arrived as colonizers, traders, scientists and missionaries but deep down their hearts lies the ‘G’s’ craving eagerly. They traded salt and sheets of “lap-lap” with our forefathers for gold and other resources. Our ancestors were seen as having less intelligence and easy to control. Their rights were breached far greater than we could ever imagine. Besides, the governor-general of Barbados proclaimed that “the time has come to leave our colonial-past behind” as the island-nation officially exited the commonwealth in 2021. Frankly, why split our nation’s power and give foreigners the legitimate right to manipulate our affairs?
