Two reported murders in Wewak have marred a peaceful New Year celebration in the provincial capital of East Sepik Province.
Details of the two reported murders, one along the Wewak wharf road and the other was reported at Yawasoro are still sketchy at this stage, however police are carrying out investigations into this deaths. Apart from this two reported killings, Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Joe Poma said Wewak town in general was quiet, as far as law and order was concerned, apart from the music, cheering people and firecrackers that people shot into the air to welcome the new year. The Provincial Police boss said he will release full details of the two reported murders once his men complete their investigations and reports are presented to him. He said he has also seen that many people have stayed indoors and celebrated in their own residents, unlike in the past where they had to deal with drunkards on the road. The Provincial Police boss thanked the people for ensuring trouble free celebrations for them. Meantime, PPC Poma said he is still yet to receive situation reports from the districts; however he said he has also received reports of disturbances in Angoram by drunkards. Comments are closed.
