A number of organizations are carrying out respective investigations into the fire that claimed the lives of seven members of a family at the National Airports Corporation premises at Tokua Airport in East New Britain Province early this week. New Guinea Islands Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner, Anton Billie, says police are conducting their own investigation as well as officers from the PNG Fire Service, PNG Power Limited and the National Airports Corporation. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, burning down the building which housed NAC staff Bona Aufa and his family. The fire killed his wife, his four children, a nephew and his sister. Mr Aufa and two of his daughters survived with burns. They are being treated at the Saint Mary’s Vunapope Hospital in Kokopo. Mr Billie says investigations carried out by respective stakeholders will be to determine how and where the fire started. He says for seven people to die in one house is a tragedy. Meantime, the Kokopo Fire Station Commander, Nason Palava, says two officers from the PNG Fire Service in Port Moresby are in currently in Kokopo to conduct their own investigation into the fire, and a report will be compiled once the investigation is completed.
