Police in Morobe Province have apprehended 13 suspects over the recent Nadzab raid that had caused a huge fear in most of the people not only in Morobe but the county as well.
Among the 13 suspects, one of them is a 21 old female from Wantuwat in Morobe Province. Provincial Police Commander Kaiglo Ambane said all 13 suspects were living in one location at West Taraka when police who were working on a tip off, went in on Monday last week and apprehended them. Ambane said the suspects mostly children between the ages of 13-21 are attending primary and secondary schools in the city. The youngest is a 13 year old from Kayapit in the Markham District Morobe province. Police also confiscated 3 staple guns, 3x9mm calibre bullets and ammunition. The suspects are now in detention awaiting security guards who were on duty at the time of the incident, to come forward and identify them. The 13 suspects were charged for being in possession of firearms and ammunition. Meanwhile, Ambane is calling on those security guards on duty at the time of the Nadzab raid to come forward and identify the 13 suspects apprehended by police on Monday. Ambane said, police have carried out all investigations into the statements those guards filed however, they are still waiting for the guards to identify those suspects. He said, it is now day 5 since police apprehended the suspects on Monday. Therefore he is calling on those security guards on duty as well as the neighboring community who have witnessed the dreadful incident to come forward and work with police. He added Nadzab is the gateway to the city, where Papua New Guineans come and it is crucial that those responsible in the devastating incident must be dealt with accordingly. He said this also shows that parents who don’t have any control over their children will see their children do anything they want without fear of those in authority or event the law for that matter. He said these children’s parents do not have control over them which resulted in them in possession of the firearms and ammunition. Ambane added some of this children are attending vocational and technical schools in the city, in which the knowledge they gained from their studies were used to turned those big staple guns into firearms. The Provincial Commander is calling on the parents, teachers and responsible authorities to look for such illegal activities in your communities especially your school age children.
