Secretary of the Department of Tresuary, Diari Vele is seeking legal advice on a post on social media Facebook, which he claims to have defamed his character and reputation.
The post by Madang businessman Bryan Kramer alleges Mr. Vele of illegally facilitating a direction by the Prime Minister for the payment of 50-million Kina in 2013 to an Israeli company LR Group, for the purchase of turbine generators for Papua New Guinea. The post which was carries an extensive thread of comments, also alleges Mr. Vele of running from the law and flying overseas in fear of being arrested by police investigators. In a lengthy statement Sunday afternoon, a frustrated Diari Vele has refuted all the allegations. He said he was on official Government business, where he's scheduled to attend several meetings in Australia and Fiji with other Government officials, in efforts to raise money for the country, and the allegations by Mr. Kramer is not helping him or the State in any way. Mr. Vele said he's been notified by the Ombudsman Commission of its investigation into the multi-government agency generator transaction, but was never approached or notified by either the Commission or the various divisions of the Police Force to provide evidence in any way. Mr. Vele also said he was working late in his office last Wednesday where Kramer had alleged that a warrant arrest was taken out for his arrest. While he's maintained that he is not avoiding an arrest, Mr. Vele says he's talked with his lawyer who will be studying the post and advice on what action to take. NBC/PNGFacts
