Papua New Guinea is celebrating the 39th Independence . There are couple of events underway for the celebrations. The traditional Flag Raising ceremony will be held on Independence Hill in Port Moresby early Tuesday morning.
Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and National Parliament Speaker Theo Zurenuoc will officiate at the ceremony. The ceremony begins at six o'clock in the morning, with the blessing of the national flag, choral presentation of the national song and national pledge by students of Gordons Secondary School and the Police Band. Prime Minister Peter O'Neill will address the nation, followed by breakfast at Parliament's State Function room for invited guests, sausage sizzle for the public at the Independence Hill gate. Governor General Sir Michael Ogio and N-C-D Governor Powes Parkop will officiate at the Flag Lowering at Konedobu Oval, starting at half-past-four in the afternoon, which will include a Guard of Honor by the PNG Defence Force The Hiri Moale Festival is also underway at Ela Beach.
