A team of journalist is heading into logging sites in the Ihu Local Level Government area in Gulf Province to inspect logging operations and its impacts on the local population as provincial government and locals build pressure to stop logging activities by logging giant, Rimbunan Hijau.
Supporting calls by Governor Havila Kavo, Vailala landowners 'umbrella company told N-B-C news despite operating in the area for over 20 years, there is still no major projects to justify the logging project. N-B-C's senior journalist, Kelvin Kasper is part of the team and filed this report. Kasper reports its also been revealed that a review of the logging permit to Frontier Holdings was already left since June last year with the PNG Forest Authority still silent on grant to conduct one. Chairman George Orioru said they want a permit reviewed and landowners involved to fully benefit from the project. He also said media inspections into the controversial Vailala logging blocks is to justify their reasons to standing support with the Ihu local level government and Gulf governor to suspend operations for its lack of honouring the agreement under the permit.
